Trauma Therapy

Advances in neuroscience are confirming that experiences of trauma result in overwhelming dysregulation of the nervous system. What are normal survival responses in the body -- fight/flight/freeze/collapse -- if left untreated can develop into post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

When the traumas occur early in childhood, or repeatedly over time in the form of abuse or neglect, the impacts of trauma become more complex. Patterned responses like anxiety, depression, dissociation, or hyper-vigilance become a way of being, and can feel like fixed personality traits. Clients often express that they did not know that it is possible to live without those symptoms. One of the most effective and rapid treatments for PTSD symptoms is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy. In addition to trauma, it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of most anxiety disorders, , complicated grief, addictions and eating disorders, and many other emotional disturbances.

I specialize in both somatic psychotherapy and EMDR, and can work with you to settle the most disturbing aspects of your past traumas.
